'Dead foetus' was alive

A pregnant woman in Ystad, in southern Sweden, was told by a doctor that her foetus was dead, but during the following abortion, the doctor realized the baby was fully developed and alive.
Later in the pregnancy, the woman was inflicted with an infection in her placenta. The baby was delivered through an emergency caesarian section 10 weeks too early, but is developing normally.
The occurrence was reported to the Health and Medical Service. The hospital has now changed routines requiring doctors to always take two ultra sound tests to locate the baby.
