Swedish prince Carl Philip has been injured in his first go-karting race of the season.

The prince, who shares his father's love of fast cars, lost control on a slippery track in Värmland during a race meet organised by racing supremo Janne 'Flash' Nilsson, reported Aftonbladet.

Coming into the final bend, Carl Philip slid off the track and smashed dramatically into the protective barrier.

After treatment in an ambulance for his bumps and bruises, the prince was able to participate in the final, despite only completing one of his three qualifying heats.

The chairman of Värmlands Karting Club, Eva Zetterström, told Aftonbladet afterwards that the bend would be renamed 'Prinsens Kurva' in honour of Carl Philip.
