Nearly 20 percent of Swedes – or 1.3 million people - own a summer house. The biggest group is older people who live in the sparsely populated countryside, but more and more younger city dwellers are making the move.

About 40 percent of Swedes say they plan on buying a summer house and the average price they are looking to pay is 670,000 kronor.

This year and next year some 29,000 Swedes, according to the study, will buy a summer retreat, investing nearly 19 billion kronor.
