Hard rock behind support family rejection

A family in Skellefteå in the north of Sweden have had their application to be a support family turned down - because the father plays in a hard rock band.

According to the assessors "it demonstrates bad values".

Support families are volunteers who help a range of people in need. Often they provide a male role model to teenage boys or support to abandoned children.

But the Family Group in Skellefteå reckons that the lyrics in hard rock songs contain too many references to violence and death. It says that it does not want to be accused of having chosen an inappropriate family.

"The lyrics are so depressing that they couldn't be seen as being a good influence on anyone," said Carl-Gustaf Forslund, head of the Family Rights Group in Skellefteå.
