Demand for damages for sacking sick woman

A temporary worker in the food industry is claiming half a million kronor in compensation after she was fired for calling in sick.

According to her union, the Swedish Food Workers Union (Livs), her employer said he could not accept people who worked for him falling ill, and those who did not turn up for work would be sacked immediately, Värmlands Folkblad reports.

The woman asked for help from her union, which started negotiations with the company. The union says the talks proved fruitless, and has taken the case to the Labour Court.

Among Livs’ demands is general damages for the woman of 150,000 kronor, and 200,000 kronor in compensation for breaking various laws and agreements.
