Birka cuts 145 jobs

Birka Line is to lay off 145 people, of whom 122 will be given their notice on Monday, said the company in a press statement.
"The result of the union negotiations which followed the sale of the Birka Princess is now, in principle, clear," wrote Birka Line.
The company had already agreed cuts in the levels of office staff, as well as deck staff and engineers.
Negotiations are still continuing regarding a smaller number of people. As well as those being made redundant, 63 people have been offered new jobs within the company.
The sale of the Birka Princess ferry has led to a total loss of around 280 jobs at the company.
