Nearly 292,000 fines were levied for traffic violations in 2005.

Over 153,000 tickets were given for speeding, which is an increase of six percent from 2004.

A total of 50,000 motorists received fines in Sweden for driving with an unfastened seat belt, up ten percent in 2005.

According to Anneli Bergholm Söder, spokeswoman for the Swedish Police, the increased number of issued tickets in 2005 is a result of police efforts rather than a rise in traffic crimes.
