Equality minister: Sweden is uncivilised
Men's violence against women and women's dependence upon men: these are the biggest problems facing Swedish women, said equality minister Jens Orback and ambassador Margareta Winberg as they marked International Women's Day on Wednesday.
In many countries the 8th of March brings women's position in society into focus. Even if Sweden is one of the countries considered to be the most gender equal, Jens Orback said that the structures which contribute to inequality still exist.
"Sweden is an uncivilised country. Women are abused, get salaries based on their gender and become ill from the double work of home and job," said Orback.
The minister said that he hopes to improve the situation for women in Sweden by introducing a new government agency dedicated to bringing about equality in the country.
