Left-wing MPs stand down

Nearly one in three deputies representing the Social Democratic Party and its allies in Sweden's parliament will not stand for re-election in September.
A survey by Swedish Radio has shown that 31 percent of MPs in the ruling left-wing bloc are standing down. The figure is much higher than that for representatives of the centre-right Alliance, of whom only 18 percent are planning to leave the Riksdag.
The party with the highest number of resignations is the Left Party, in which half of all deputies will not be standing in the autumn. The figure for the Social Democrats is 27 percent.
Political scientist Jörgen Hermansson told Swedish Radio that the difference between the Social Democrat and Alliance MPs was remarkable. Social Democrats historically stay longer in parliament than politicians of the centre-right.
All 349 Riksdag deputies replied to the survey.
