Suspect dies after courtroom window leap

A 45 year old man died on Friday afternoon after apparently attempting to jump out of a second-floor window at Stockholm district court.

The man, who was suspected of an unspecified crime, was waiting in his lawyer's room while negotiations over his arrest warrant were ongoing.

There were bars on the window but the man somehow managed to get through them, then opened the window and jumped 7-8 metres to the ground where he collapsed.

The man was taken by ambulance to Karolinska university hospital but his life could not be saved.

According to Norrmalm police spokesman Johan Hallberg, the city police's investigation department will look into the incident.

"But as things stand there are no suspicions of any crime," he said.

Hallberg did not know whether the lawyer was present in the room when the incident occurred. Nor did he know what prompted the man to leap from the window.
