Swedes still patriotic car buyers

Fewer Swedes bought cars in February than in the same month in 2005, new statistics from industry organisation Bil Sweden show. But Swedes are still patriotic in their choice of car: the top three best-selling models are all Swedish.

The Volvo V70 is the most popular car model in Sweden, with 3,589 sold this year so far. Volvo also tool second place on the list with the V50. Saab made it a Swedish triple with the Saab 9-3, which has sold 1,038 cars sold.

A total of 18,586 cars were registered in February, a fall of 2.6 percent on February 2005.

Sales of commercial vehicles were up significantly. A total of 3,262 trucks were registered in Sweden in February, an increase of 17.3 percent. Sales of heavier categories of trucks were up 22.6 percent.
