Eight young people between the ages of 15 and 19 were arrested on Friday night on suspicion of serious assault, after two men and two women were attacked at Slussen in central Stockholm.

The four victims, who are homosexual, were kicked in the head and body. Police suspect hate crime.

"We believe that there were around ten in the gang from the beginning. Eight have been arrested, both girls and boys," said Lena Baakki of Södermalm police to TT.

Parents were present at the interviews, after which the eight were allowed to go home.

"They are still suspected of the crime and have admitted that they were at the scene but I can't give any more details," said a police spokesman on Saturday afternoon.

The people who were assaulted did not require hospital treatment, say police.
