Appeal court threatened after paedophile judgement

Staff at the Court of Appeal in Sundsvall have received threats after the court lessened the punishment of a convicted paedophile.

The 39 year old had sexually abused a three year old girl in a case which provoked strong feelings in the town.

The threats have been both verbal and written, and have been directed at administrative staff as well as the legal officers.

"It's extremely unpleasant," said chief judge Håkan Lavén to the local paper, Sundsvalls Tidning.

The main cause of the threats appears to have been the fact that the girl's compensation was reduced to 25,000 kronor since she was sleeping when the abuse took place, and was therefore unaware of what was going on.
