IFK Göteborg star linked to tax scandal

IFK Göteborg player Stefan Selakovic is suspected of being involved in the tax scandal enveloping the club. He was told last week that he is thought to be an accomplice to tax evasion, but he rejects the allegations.

"He denies any crime and my understanding is that the prosecutor will take Selakovic off the list of suspects in the relatively near future," said the player's lawyer, Jonas Nilsson.

According to Göteborgs-Posten, the allegations against him are to do with a "courier job".

The star was to have received a three million kronor signing-on bonus, but actually received 4.5 million. Then, according to the paper, 1.35 million was transferred to an account in Luxembourg, said to be held by the club's treasurer, Jan Nilsson.

Selkovic's lawyer declined to comment on the Luxembourg account, but the player said he was "taking things one day at a time".

"We know that it's going to be tough, but I am innocent and the legal process will show that," said Selakovic.
