New description of Linköping double killer
Police hunting the man who killed a boy and a woman in broad daylight on a street in Linköping a year ago say they could be close to a breakthrough in the case.
A female witness has come forward and provided evidence which has allowed police to put together a detailed description of the man.
"In all probability this woman met the murderer," said criminal inspector Benniet Henricsson to the paper Östgötacorren.
Eight year old Mohammad Ammouri was on his way to school when he was stabbed while Anna-Lena Svenson was only 25 metres from her apartment block and on her way to her job in central Linköping. The boy died at the scene and Mrs Svenson died from her wounds in hospital some hours later.
The murderer escaped but police found his blood-stained clothes hidden near the scene of the murder and concluded that the killer had seriously injured his own right hand in the attacks.
Despite conducting thousands of interviews and having a sample of the killer's DNA from a knife found near the scene, police have still failed to produce a firm suspect.
But on Friday police interviewed a woman who said that she was cycling to work on the morning of the murders and saw a man, around 180 centimetres tall, wearing a black overcoat which came down to his hips and a dark woollen hat. He had on a pair of black tracksuit trousers and a white trainers.
The description matches slightly vaguer details which were provided by another witness, but also suggests that the man took a different route away from the crime scene.
Police have once again urged anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them in response to the new information.
