Schools criticised after bullying suicide

A 13 year old boy committed suicide in April this year after years of bullying at two schools in the Gothenburg area. The Swedish National Agency for Education has criticised the local authority, which has ultimate responsibility for school matters, for not doing enough for the boy.

The authority was criticised for not having fulfilled the requirements for ensuring that schools do all they can to fight against bullying.

They did not act in a complete or targeted manner to put a stop to the long term and repeated violation of the boy, wrote the agency in its verdict, which was published on Tuesday.
