Social Democrat support up strongly

Support for the Social Democrats increased by 4.1 percentage points compared to a month ago, according to an opinion poll undertaken by Demoskop for TV4 and Expressen and released on Wednesday. The Left Party also saw support grow strongly, by 2.9 percentage points.

The increases mean that the Social Democrats, Left Party and Green Party together now have the support of 48.3 percent of voters, against the centre-right Alliance’s 49.1.

All four Alliance parties have seen a reverse in their figures. The Christian Democrats come off worst – their score of 4 percentage points puts them at risk of disappearing from teh Riksdag altogether.

Demoskop interviewed 1,000 voters between 30th August and 5th September. It is therefore unclear from the poll what effect, if any, the televised party leader debate on Sunday (4th September) had on voters’ intentions. The debate was widely perceived to have been won by the Alliance.
