Back to college for Sweden's young royals

Hosting a state visit from Malaysia, going on a state visit to Australia, and opening a shopping centre in Töckfors - just a few of the highlights of the Swedish royal family's autumn programme, which has been released by the palace.

The whole family will attend the state opening of parliament on September 13th. But after that, the burdens of being Sweden's figureheads will fall mainly upon the king and queen, while their children get back to their studies.

Crown Princess Victoria will, nevertheless, find time for a trip to China where, along with Minister for Industry and Trade Thomas Östros, she will among other things open an exhibition of Swedish East Indian porcelain.

On September 14th the royal family will welcome state visitors from Malaysia and in November the king and queen will head to Australia.

Later on in November, King Carl Gustaf will open a shopping centre in Töcksfors, in the county of Årjäng, an event made somewhat more significant by its role in the celebrations of the centenary of the dissolution of the union between Sweden and Norway.

The Crown Princess will continue her studies in what the palace calls "society related subjects" and, like her brother Carl Philip and her sister Madeleine, will be seen less in her official capacity.

The prince has a year left of his graphic design course and Madeleine is studying history at Stockholm university.

But perhaps most exciting of all for online royal-watchers is the news that the royal family's new-look web site will be released in the autumn.
