A dispute between rival Swedish business websites has gone to a new level, after one site bought a web address similar to that of its rival, and redirected it to a German gay porn site.

The row started last year, when realtid.se was founded as an alternative source of business news. Rival site ekonominyheterna.se, which is owned by Swedish publishing giant Bonnier, bought the domain realtid.nu, and directed traffic to its own site.

In response, Realtid registered ekonominyheterna.nu, although the site lay dormant until last weekend when Realtid’s owners decided to give business readers something else on which to feast their eyes: German gay porn.

Realtid’s Jonas Wiwen-Nilsson told Internet World that TV4 had previously been in touch about the possibility of swapping addresses, but that nothing had come of it.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said.

The .nu domain – actually the national domain of the small Pacific island group of Niue - is popular among Swedish businesses, as "nu" is the Swedish word for "now".

The Local tried contacting the editor of Ekonominyheterna for a comment, but without success.
