news agency STT-FNB has reported.

Customs authorities at the Vaalimaa border station in eastern Finland discovered the shipment hidden in a Turkish truck en route from Russia to Sweden via Finland. The find is Finland's biggest ever drugs haul.

The drugs were hidden behind the instrument panel and in the brakes' pressure system. The driver of the lorry, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been arrested, the news agency said.

Large heroin hauls are unusual in Finland. The previous record dates to 1995 when a total of 5.5 kilos of the drug was confiscated throughout the entire year.

Last year, a total of 200 grams of heroin was seized in Finland, and in the past 10 years an average of less than a kilo has been confiscated per year.
