Security surrounding Swedish Crown Princess Victoria has been raised after a man with a dangerous obsession with royalty escaped from a Danish psychiatric clinic.

Jens Peter Schwartzlose, aged 41, has been described by Swedish and Danish police as having an unhealthy interest in Victoria. Expressen reports that Schwartzlose has written a number of letter and emails to the royal family in which he threatend the Crown Princess.

Schwartzlose, who suffers from schizophrenia, escaped from his secure unit at Roskilde in Denmark on Friday. He was wearing just shorts and a t-shirt at the time.

He is said to have told staff at the unit that he is after the Swedish Crown Princess.

“From what I understand, he wants to marry your Crown Princess,” said Chief Inspector Ib Meng of Roskilde Police to Swedish news agency TT.

According to TT, Schwartzlose was turned away from a royal appearance in Stockholm a few years ago.

Expressen reports that Schwartzlose often identifies himself as a Danish or Swedish secret agent, and sometimes uses the name Peter Clarke. The paper says that he is psychotic and highly dangerous to the public.

The paper says that Swedish police have issued a nationwide alert regarding the escape, and have tightened security around Victoria and the rest of the royal family, although officers at Säpo, Sweden's security police, refused to go into details of royal security arrangements.

Victoria and her boyfriend, Daniel Westling, left the royal summer palace Solliden on Sautrday. Ann-Christine Jernberg, press officer for the royal family, told Expressen she wouldn’t reveal details of the Crown Princess’s current whereabouts.
