Swedish trade surplus shrinks

Sweden saw its trade surplus drop 16.6 percent in May to 13 billion kronor, down from 15.6 billion kronor in the same month a year earlier, Statistics Sweden said on Monday.
In May, exports rose six percent to 80.2 billion kronor from 75.5 billion kronor for the same month in 2004, while imports jumped 12 percent to 67.2 billion kronor from 59.9 billion kronor a year ago.
Trade with countries outside the European Union resulted in a surplus of 15.7 billion kronor, while EU trade gave a deficit of 2.7 billion kronor in May.
Over the first five months of the year, Sweden had a trade surplus of 65.1 billion kronor, down 12 percent from 74 billion during the same period last year, according to the statistics agency.
