Public's confidence in government falls
Barely two days after a major opinion poll appeared to show that the 'spring crisis' for the ruling Social Democrats was over, a new survey has revealed that public confidence in the government is still falling.
According to the poll carried out by Dagens Nyheter and Temos and published on Friday, the Social Democrats popularity rose from 32.3% in April to 34.6% in May, while in the same period the main opposition party, the Moderates, saw their ratings fall from 30.1% to 29.3%.
The pattern was similar among the smaller parties, with the Social Democrats' allies, the Left Party, rising from 5.0% to 7.0% in the ratings. The second-largest opposition party, the Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) dropped from 13.5% in April to 11.8% in May.
The upshot was that the opposition parties' record ratings lead in April of 11.2% was cut to just 4%.
But the government has had little time to enjoy the turnaround. In a poll published on Saturday by Skop, 47% of the 1,100 respondents said that the government was doing a bad job - 2% more than last month. Only 33% said they thought the government was doing a good job.
41% said that they thought the opposition would do a better job than the government.
