Hockey sex scandal case to be closed

The investigation into the nocturnal activities of three Swedish ice hockey stars is finally to be closed for lack of evidence, according to Expressen. Kristian Huselius, Andreas Lilja and Henrik Tallinder were accused of sexually abusing a 22 year old woman during an international tournament in February.

The players were sensationally arrested prior to a game and interviewed by police. The very next day, however, the investigation was closed. But chief prosecutor pointed out several shortcomings in the investigation and demanded the case be re-opened.

For the past three months, police have been re-examining the claims of the 22 year old woman. She says she met the players at the Lab nightclub in Stockholm and went back to their room at the Hotel Park. During the course of the night, all three players had intercourse with her.

However the new investigation has failed to strengthen her accusations. Blood tests carried out on the woman have proved to be inconclusive, as have interviews with other witnesses including hotel staff. The woman's own memory of events has remained vague.

A source has told Expressen:

"There's very little to go on. It's word against word."

The case is expected to be formally closed by prosecutor Anne-Marie Bergström on Friday.
