Malmö man could have lured 100 girls on net

A Malmö man is being held on suspicion of raping or sexually abusing at least six young teenage girls whom he met on the Internet. The 29-year old also received explicit photos and videos from as many as 100 girls whom he met in chat rooms including the popular youth site Lunarstorm.

The girls, many of whom were thirteen and fourteen, believed they were chatting with a 25-year old woman called Alexandra. “Alexandra” promised the girls money for posing for explicit photos, and offered to help them find work as escorts.

The police were alerted to the man’s activities last autumn when a 16-year old girl from Stockholm travelled to Malmö to meet Alexandra, only discovering on her arrival that “she” was a 29-year old man. At their meeting the man sexually assaulted the girl, who then reported him to the police.

The man’s activities came to the police’s attention again in March; three 13 and 14-year old girls, who had also met the man in chat rooms, reported that he had raped them.

The 29-year old, who is originally from Norrland, has previously been convicted of having sexual relations with minors. When police examined his computer they found at least 1,500 sexually explicit photos and 150 films, reported Expressen.

Police say that they have identified around twenty girls with whom the man had online contact, although they believe that the real number is much higher. He is suspected to have raped or assaulted at least five girls. He was arrested in late March, and has since been in custody suspected of rape, sexual abuse of minors and sexual molestation.

Malmö police are now trying to contact other girls who may have been abused. At a press conference on Friday police said they suspect that further victims of the 29-year old might have been too afraid to come forward.

“It is a tough job to get in touch with them,” said Malmö police’s Anna Gustafsson. “This is something that the girls involved are very ashamed about.”
