SWECO VIAK will investigate the emissions produced by the city's existing treatment plants and industries. The municipal sewage network will also be studied and a programme of remedial measures formulated.

The assignment is being carried out on behalf of the water utility Vodokanal in St. Petersburg with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

The contract for the work is worth a reported 3.5 million kronor.
