Bolander, who has been at Sony Ericsson since 2000, will be responsible for managing the development of Sony Ericsson in Russia.

Under Bolander's leadership the mobile phone company has developed at a considerable rate and is now the market leader Sweden and second largest in the Nordic region.

Bolander's appointment is clearly a major strategic move by the company aimed at securing Sony Ericsson a large slice of the Russian market. With a population of almost 144 million, the company will be looking to establish a solid footing across the baltic.

"Russia represents a massive market which is developing at an incredible rate," Bolander told ComputerSweden.

Last year alone 22 million mobile phones were sold.

"The region has immense potential for Sony Ericsson."
