Job losses are also expected in Alingsås, Eskilstuna, Linköping and Huskvarna.

IBM's press officer Barbro Lådö confirmed details of the redundancies to news bureau TT. It is expected that IBM's personel are to be told of the decision during the course of today.

Employees at Västerås had, according to DN, been warned jobs were on the line and that the company was planning to shift operations to low-wage countries like India.

It is feared the latest round of job cuts may also affect some of the 2,000 staff at IBM's Swedish head office in Stockholm.
