Model approach to Swedish princess
After impressing the Australian public on her first trip to the country, Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria has now won another admirer: a model, who "flirted uncontrollably" with her throughout a fashion show in Melbourne.
On Tuesday the princess attended the show to promote Swedish fashion and design as part of a twelve day Swedish Style festival. Among the twenty models was 28 year old Tim Ewen, a former athlete who has, according to Expressen, represented Australia at the World Championships.
As he paraded up and down the catwalk Ewen first blew a kiss and then signalled "call me" to the princess - much to the amusement of the public. No doubt encouraged by their reaction he then jumped down off the stage and kissed Victoria's hand.
"Obviously I like it when models flirt with me," said Victoria afterwards.
Putting aside questions of security, the public apparently cheered with delight at the sight of Ewen's "shameless" approach.
"I just wanted to have a bit of fun with the princess," he said. "She is really beautiful."
The princess, of course, has a boyfriend back home in the shape of Daniel Westling. Expressen pointed this out to the "charming" model.
"Is that right? I didn't know that," he said. But while the "single" Ewen stole the headlines for the day, he doesn't appear to have the commitment to steal Victoria's heart from Westling. Could he imagine being a prince in Sweden, asked Expressen.
"Ah, I don't know about that - I'll have to get to know her better first," he said. "But I reckon it would be really boring to be a prince."
The princess's wardrobe has come under considerable scrutiny during her trip, with the tabloids professing themselves "shocked" by a top cut slightly lower than usual. But Victoria's new style has been the product of a clear-out over the last few months.
"Now I choose my clothes myself," she told Aftonbladet. "The most important thing is that they look good and suit me. Then the garments must be appropriate for the occasion."
The princess and her advisors are aware of the impact her choice of clothes can have on a certain range.
"When I'm here for Swedish Style I think it's important just to wear Swedish clothes," said Victoria.
But it's equally important that she is not seen to be representing specific fashion lines or designers, said her "mentor", Elisabeth Tarras-Wahlberg.
"She has found her personal style but without being a mannequin for different brands," she said.
