Sweden's tax authorities have "failed" or "marked" 45 pubs in northern Kalmar, according to DN on Wednesday.

Lena Bengtsson at Skatteverket said that between 100,000 and one million crowns were missing from their books.

"In eight of these cases it appears the tax office has handed the matter over to a tribunal", according to DN.

The tax office believes the missing money could have been used for "cash in hand payments to staff". Bengtsson does not believe the proprietors themselves have taken the money but the Inland Revenue will continue to "keep a close eye" on the pubs.
