The girl, who is originally from Azerbaijan, had been in the city centre of Borås on Saturday, shopping with her father. He left her in the car to run a quick errand, and when he returned she was no longer there.

For three days the police searched, asking taxi drivers and bus drivers to keep an eye out for her.

"The police searched the entire city centre of Borås with sniffer dogs on Saturday", confirmed DN. They also searched the watercourses in the immediate area.

Eventually she was found in the small hours of Tuesday morning.

"She was found by her father in the Norrby area of Borås," said the duty officer at Borås police station.

It is still not clear why the girl vanished or where she has been, although she and her family are apparently waiting to be sent back to Azerbaijan by the immigration authorities.

"It may well be that the girl is afraid of being sent back, and that's why she ran away", said Chief investigator, Leif Nerhall, to TT.
