SAS strikes hit profitability
Last autumn’s strikes have had a negative effect on the Q4 result posted by the Scandinavian airline group SAS. The group posted a loss of 250 million crowns for Q4 despite a 2.0 per cent upswing in passenger traffic in December.
However, the so-called 'cabin factor', which shows how full each aircraft is, fell by 3.2 percentage points to 57.2 per cent.
Stiff competition and surplus capacity on Scandinavian routes is affecting profitability and the SAS executive is still unsure over future prospects.

Skistar, which owns ski resorts in Åre, Sälen, Vemdalen and Norwegian Hemsedal, has noted an increase in tourism from Eastern Europe recently and is holding talks with SAS on the possibility of starting flights between St Petersburg and Moscow and Östersund.

The number of passengers passing through the airports run by the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration rose by 5 per cent in 2004. A total of 27,559,600 passengers passed through the airports, of which 14,446,800 travelled on international flights and 13,112,800 on domestic flights.
