Erik Paulsson, chief executive at Skistar, says he's keen to have a direct flight from Moscow or St.Petersburg to Östersund.

"Those two cities are high on my priority list at the moment", said Paulsson.

Skistar owns skiing areas in Åre, Sälen, Vemdalen and the slopes in Norwegian Hemsedal.

So far most tourists in these resorts have been Scandinavians, but Eastern European tourists have started to arrive over the last few years.

Hans Svensson, chief executive of Holiday Club Sweden, explained that three flight operators currently have chartered flights to Östersund, but those flights are not booked by Russians.

"They fly to St.Moritz and other destinations", said Hansson.
