Former party leader on gay fashion rampage
"It is the fault of homosexual fashion designers that women are forced to wear clothes which are too tight." So said former Moderate party leader Ulf Adelsohn in a Radio Stockholm interview this week.
Quite what spurred his outburst against gay style gurus was not revealed in Wednesday's Aftonbladet. But his non-stop ranting was by far enough to keep the tabloid papers happy.
Adelsohn, now chairman of Swedish Railways, attacked the recent and highly publicised Karl Lagerfeld collection for H&M and "the gang of French homosexuals" that rule the world of fashion.
Defending the gay fashion corner was the king of Swedish drag queens, Christer Lindarw.
"It is gay men's desire for women to be beautiful objects which influences women's fashion," he told Aftonbladet.
"Ulf Adelsohn is living in the dark ages. Today women want to be curvy, they want a nice bottom. He has no idea."
The issue was not on the agenda at the recent party conference of the National Democrats, Sweden's right-wing extremists, which took place in the delightful surroundings of Trollebo, in southern Sweden.
But the fact that the conference centre and facilities they used are owned by Sweden's National Board of Forestry (Skogsstyrelsen) has caused something of a stir.
As reported in Wednesday's Aftonbladet, they drew up their future strategy - "The ethnic protection of the Swedish people" - on a rostrum embellished with the logo of a government authority.
"It is terrible to see the symbols of our organisations together," said Skogsstyrelsen's Gunnar Gotte.
According to Gotte, authorities do not have a written policy when it comes to who can and cannot hire the premises. "There hasn't been a need for it before," he said. "But after renting out to the National Democrats, the boundaries have already been broken."
Ingrid Svensson took the booking and was unaware of the nature of the event. "They said they were having an association meeting over the weekend. They didn't say they were the National Democrats," she said.
And nor did they issue a comment to Aftonbladet.
