Hundreds trapped on the Stockholm underground

DN reported on Sunday that sabotage was possibly behind a stuck underground train in Stockholm last Saturday. Up to a hundred people were trapped on the green line train when it stopped outside the station at Medborgarplatsen. Disruptions lasted all day.

A train is not allowed to reverse on the tracks and SL staff did not want to let passengers out inside the tunnels. They "expected the problem to be dealt with quickly" but passengers were stranded for over an hour.

"Several emergency handles were pulled at the same time, and no explanation was given to the driver afterwards - that's why it took longer to clarify the situation and to get the trains up and running again", said Björn Holmber, press officer at SL.
