The official YouTube channel belonging to Lady Gaga was shut down temporarily on Wednesday after a French production company complained that a video by the star was being used without permission.

The channel on the video-sharing service was suspended for several hours after Air Productions submitted a complaint of copyright violation over a performance video featuring the global superstar.

The performance, taped in mid-June for the French rock-music show Taratata, featured Lady Gaga performing her song "Hair" during a stop in France to promote her latest CD, "Born This Way."

The singer, who uses YouTube extensively and is one of the site's most popular personalities, had put a video of the performance on the channel, evidently without the permission of Air Productions, the company behind Taratata and run by that show's host, French TV and radio personality Nagui Fam.

Closures on YouTube in general occur automatically when complaints about possible violations are registered. Often, those complaints are submitted by subcontractors and not by the rights holders themselves.

The channel was reopened by YouTube once the company realized what had happened and Air Productions retracted its complaint.

"It was either a technical or human error, and we are looking into it now," an Air Productions spokesperson told the website Le Point.fr. "Of course, Lady Gaga has the right to use videos from Taratata, we have no problem with that."
