Only 20% "want free public transport"

According to a recent survey on public transport by Dagens Nyheter and Temo, 74 per cent of Stockholm's residents believe public transport costs should be included in taxes. Every fifth person said they wanted free transport but were willing to pay more council tax.

Those who completed the survey were informed that today's system is funded both through taxes and ticket fees. They were also told that free public transport would mean increased council taxes.

"One could say it's surprising how few people are opting for free transport, but most people feel it's the done thing to pay for services that they use", said Nicklas Källebring at Temo.
