Social Democrat women call for equal parental leave

Fathers should be entitled to at least five months statutory paternity leave, according to the Social Democrat Women's Group, said Aftonbladet on Wednesday.
"We're aiming to find a non-gender related balance and a system that is flexible for both parents", said Berit Andnor, at the Children and Family Council. She believes fathers don't use all the days they are entitled to, and that changing the statutory allowance would ensure that families are given more influence over their own situation.
"The government shouldn't fund a system forcing children to grow up more with one parent than the other", said Nalin Pekgul, Head of the Social Democrat Women's Group, who fears that the status quo could breed insecurity in many children.
