Medical authorities in the Nord/Pas-de-Calais region said that four of the five children had eaten steak haché products purchased at supermarket chain Lidl, according to AFP.

Regional health authority ARS (Agence régionale de Santé) confirmed that the E.coli outbreak had "nothing to do with the recent epidemic in Germany."

They also "demanded that the manufacturer should recall steaks made by the Steaks Country brand from Lidl shops."

Medical authorities will continue their investigations to confirm the source of the outbreak.
